MLM Woman Issue 51

This free monthly newsletter is made possible by our advertisers and customers. We thank them for their support!

From the Desk of the Editor

Welcome to the 51st issue of the MLM Woman Newsletter. This month we feature articles to motivate, inspire and empower you.

I recently came across the poem below and decided to include it in this month's issue because it expresses so well the power of networking. It inspires me to keep my business vision in mind; I hope that you find it equally inspiring.

Linda Locke, Editor MLM Woman

Decide to Network
By Robert Muller

Decide to Network
Use every letter you write
Every conversation you have
Every meeting you attend
To express your fundamental beliefs and dreams
Affirm to others the vision of the world you want
Network through thought
Network through action
Network through love
Network through spirit
You are the center of a network
You are the center of the world
You are a free, immensely powerful source of life and goodness
Affirm it
Spread it
Radiate it
Think day and night about it
And you will see a miracle happen:
the greatness of your own life.
In a world of big powers, media, and monopolies
But of four and a half billion individuals
Networking is the new freedom
the new democracy
a new form of happiness

3 Buying Motivators
You Can Use to
Increase Your Sales

Copyright 2001 By Bob Leduc

Below are 3 powerful buying motivators you can use to increase your sales without increasing your expenses. They work for any business and apply to every marketing method including the Internet.

1. PROMOTE "SIMPLE, FAST AND EASY"

Your customers want your product or service to provide a simple solution to their problem. They also want to see fast results and they want those results to be easy to get.

Give them what they want. Promote the characteristics of your product or service that are simple and easy -- and those that provide fast results. These are often more important to customers than price.

Also make your buying process simple, fast and easy for EACH customer so you don't lose potential sales. For example...

Many internet marketers offer only one way for customers to order -- online at a secure server. That may be the easiest way for YOU to buy something but it's not the easiest way for all of your customers. That's why many online orders get abandoned before they're completed.

One online marketer told me her sales increased almost 20 percent when she added the options of ordering by phone, fax or postal mail.

2. STOP SELLING AND LET THEM BUY

People love to buy things but they hate the feeling of being sold something.

I recently read about a survey conducted among new car buyers. Every participant rated the helpful attitude of the salesperson as one of the major reasons they bought their car. None felt like a persuasive salesperson SOLD them a car. Instead, they felt like they BOUGHT the car.

Most of those survey participants were probably ready to buy a car when they walked into the dealership. The salesperson didn't have to persuade them to buy. He just needed to find a car with the features they wanted and a price they could afford.

How can you create the same atmosphere in your business? Target your advertising to prospects most likely to be interested in what you're selling. They won't require much persuasion to buy.

IMPORTANT: Prospects in a narrowly defined target market will immediately recognize how your product or service can benefit them. You don't have to persuade them of its value. But you do have to persuade them to take immediate action and buy NOW.

3. ELIMINATE THE RISK

Prospects often avoid buying from you because they don't want to risk the chance of getting unsatisfactory results from your product or service.

One way you can eliminate that risk is to guarantee their satisfaction. A money back guarantee with few or no conditions is a powerful risk eliminator if you sell a product.

But a money back guarantee may not be practical if you sell a service. You can't recover any of the time and labor you already invested. Instead of a money back guarantee, you can guarantee to perform additional services at no cost until your customer is satisfied with the results.

Another way to reduce your customer's risk is to provide testimonials from satisfied customers. They prove you can deliver what you promise. (You do ask your customers for testimonials, don't you?)

The most effective testimonial describes a specific benefit your customer gained by using your product or service. For example, "I already lost 9 pounds in just 3 weeks."

TIP: Get permission to include your customer's name and address with each testimonial. Personal testimonials from real people are more believable than anonymous testimonials.

Spend some time today applying these 3 buying motivators to promote your business. You'll be amazed by how quickly they increase your sales without increasing your expenses.

The Trouble with Sam
By Michael Angier

I have a friend (let’s call him Sam), who has more potential than most people I know. Sam’s well-educated, smart, interesting to talk to and has good people skills.

He looks good, smells good and he's broke.

And I don’t mean just financially. His spirit is broken. He’s physically overdrawn and emotionally bankrupt.

Sam has read lots of success literature. He has a good grasp of the principles of success. Most people would say he has a good attitude but they, like me, are somewhat baffled by his less-than-stelllar performance.

Sam wants desperately to succeed. He’s been successful before. He can do it again, but will he?

So what’s Sam’s problem? I don’t know him well enough to know all the reasons he stays stuck, but I have some observations.

Sam has two major challenges: 1) He doesn’t love what he’s doing, and 2) he doesn’t consistently do the things he knows he must in order to succeed.

Like many people today, Sam wants to make it big. As we see people in their twenties becoming millionaires through stock options and IPOs, it’s easy to feel like we’ve missed--or are missing--the boat. Sam feels a need to remain in his chosen profession because it’s what he knows and where he thinks the big bucks can be made. But money won’t make him successful. He needs to become successful on the inside before it happens on the outside.

If Sam loved what he did and it wasn’t turning out all that profitable, he could continue to look for ways to make it work. But since it’s not working and he doesn’t even like doing it, it seems to me the Universe is telling him loud and clear to make a different career choice.

Like the rabbit in The Tortoise and the Hare, Sam works in spurts. He burns out, gets sidetracked and loses momentum. And every time he does, he feels like a failure. His self-esteem plummets and he feels guilty for not doing what he set out to do. Each time this happens, it becomes harder and harder to get started again.

The Hyde School in Bath, Maine has a philosophy which I support. They don’t believe you can get kids to do great things by helping them feel better about themselves. They believe you get kids to feel good about themselves by getting them to do great things. And it works.

Sam thinks he needs to enhance his self-esteem in order to make better progress. What I think he needs to do is find something he’s excited about, set some reasonable goals and take the steps to achieve them. As he succeeds in small matters, his confidence and self-worth will climb. From there, he can set some bigger goals and create a bigger game--a game worth playing. By doing something he loves, he’ll be enjoying the price of success instead of paying the price of success. His health will improve, his net worth will go up right along with his self-respect, and he will affect all those around him in a positive way.

I firmly believe that our life works in direct proportion to how well-synched we are to our true purpose--our unique contribution to the world.

When we’re engaged in something joyful, it doesn’t seem like work and the results can be magical. As John Ruskin wrote, "When love and skill work together, expect a masterpiece."

Sam didn’t arrive at where he is overnight, and he may not turn it around quickly either. There will undoubtedly be major breakthroughs and blinding flashes of the obvious, but he needs to stay the course in order to have this happen.

We all need to run (or walk) the race like the tortoise but also make sure we’re in the right race. Clarity of purpose and consistent investments of time and effort toward that purpose will always win.

"Never Take Your Eyes
Off The Horizon..."
By David Ledoux

There is something life-altering about leaping from a perfectly good airplane with 12 lbs. of silk and string tied to your back while flying at 10,000 feet. It's almost as terrifying as starting your own network marketing business!

Like many other enthusiastic hobbyists, I fondly recall my first experience with skydiving. It was about ten years ago when I was in the Northwest Territories in Canada. I went through the standard lectures and trainings from experienced teachers, but nothing can prepare you for the initial terror of crawling out on the wheel of a tiny airplane about the size of a Mercedes.

The first blast of air that hits you at 120 miles an hour wakes you up to the reality that you are two miles above the Earth, preparing to jump. You take a deep breath, hang from the wingstrut, smile nervously at your teacher, and release your grasp.

The first moments of anything new can be unsettling, and leaping from 10,000 feet is no exception. You feel the sensation of weightlessness as you remember to do as you were instructed. "Arch! Arch!" You silently scream to yourself as a dizzying, spinning blur comes into view.

Your senses begin to realize that the twirling blue line is where the ground and sky meet. You recall your instructor's words, "Never take your eyes off the horizon." As you crane your neck to stay focused on one spot the world stops spinning out of control. You stabilize and begin to enjoy the momentum of freefall, plummeting earthward at over 100 miles an hour.

Believe it or not, it takes a full 45 seconds to free-fall a vertical mile. After the chaotic first few seconds, you have what seems like a lifetime to ponder, internalize and enjoy life before your altimeter reminds you to throw your pilot chute.

While screaming down at 100 miles an hour you calmly reach down to your belt, grab a 2 foot square of silk and toss it into the air with the hopes that the drag caused by the pilot pulls your larger, life-saving chute open.

You count silently to 5 and feel the welcome tug as your chute fills with air and you peacefully glide down to earth!

Building your network marketing business is a lot like skydiving for the first time. People tell you how to do it, you read about it, you watch others do it, but there is still incredible apprehension in attempting it for the first time. Family and friends try to tell you you're crazy. "What if you fail?", they cry. The last seconds before you take the plunge are filled with self-doubts. "What if I really do screw-up?"

You finally work up the courage to leap, only to find your world spinning out of control moments later in unfamiliar surroundings. Panic sets in, and unless you take control of your situation you'll quickly give up, merely another statistic of failed networkers.

What is the solution?

Focus your entire being on your desired outcome and ignore the distractions. Pick that one spot on the horizon that represents your goals, dreams and aspirations and stay focused no matter what.

Watch as the annoying, spinning distractions drop away and life comes under your control once again. Feel yourself and your business accelerate towards breathtaking momentum. Notice the onlookers on the ground cheering you on.

Enjoy the excitement!

Continue the ride until your trusty altimeter tells you it's time to prepare for a soft landing.

The parachute called "Time and Financial Freedom" is what turns an exciting ride into a life-changing one!

Passive income is one of the true rewards of a successful network marketing career. Nothing worth having in life comes without effort.

It takes the same courage to leap from an airplane as it does to make a life-altering decision to take control of your financial destiny. Remember that although it seems like a long and scary journey ahead, in reality life goes by faster than we ever believed as kids.

The first few chaotic moments will give way to breathtaking speed and excitement. Squeeze every moment of opportunity out of life and take nothing for granted!

Everyday Tools for
Extraordinary Success

Copyright © 2001 By Dr. Philip E. Humbert

I am often asked about the "secrets to success". I've had the chance to work with thousands of highly successful people in business and finance, in sports, in entertainment and the arts, and the good news is, there are no "secrets" for success!

There are, however, a few tools that, when used together, come close to being a "secret weapon". They require no special talent or skills. They cost very little, and every school child has a complete set.

They are around us every day, yet we fail to use them, and we deprive ourselves of their power. Here is my list of the Top 5 "secret" weapons of extraordinarily successful leaders:

1. 3x5 cards. Yup, I'm referring to those little cards your Mom used for recipes. Successful people use them to jot notes, keep tips, and store valuable information. I carry them everywhere, and have supplies by the phone, beside my bed, and on the kitchen counter. They are wonderful! They last forever - I have cards I wrote over 30 years ago! And if you accidentally leave them in your pockets, they even go through the wash. (Trust me on this!)

2. A watch. Highly successful people are intensely time-conscious. They don't spend their time, their energy or their lives on trivial pursuits. They wear a watch and they use it to stay on task until they achieve their goals and create the life they want. Time is your most precious asset and our most under-valued commodity. Wear and USE a watch!

3. An alarm clock. Benjamin Franklin observed that "early to bed, early to rise, makes a man (or woman) healthy, wealthy and wise". It's still true! I live and work with wealthy people, and when I walk my dog after 10:00 p.m., there are no lights on. But when we walk about 6:00 in the morning, everyone is up, and the cars are already heading for the office. Buy and use an alarm clock! Start early, work hard.

4. A list. Highly successful people plan their day. They make a list of their most important priorities. They choose the things that will make a major, long-term difference, and they focus on them all day long. Last thing in the evening, or first thing in the morning, create a list and work from it during your day.

5. A compass. My most successful clients always have a symbol or a map, a picture or poster of their most important goals and they use it to guide them during the day. They stay on course. If they get lost, they re- assess and get back on-track immediately. Have a "compass" that reminds you of your dreams, your goals, and your most daring desires. Stay on course!
