Should You Use Your Real Name or a Brand Name on Twitter?
By Linda Locke

Should you use your real name on Twitter or a brand name?  The trend has been leaning towards using your real name, but that's not always a good idea if you have a strong brand name that suits you better.

Here's why: I follow Ken Robert on Twitter as @MildlyCreative and recently his friend Charlie Gilkey advised him to change his handle on Twitter to his real name. After just a day Ken changed it back. Why? Because it felt wrong and just didn't fit him as well as @MildlyCreative does. It describes what he does so much better than his real name. It's his brand and he's sticking to it.

Another example is my friend, Barbara Winter, who goes by @joblessmuse on Twitter. Barbara is the best-selling author of How to Make a Living without a Job. Her name is well-known, but her Twitter handle of @joblessmuse is so much more effective, since it too focuses on who she is and what she does.

So think carefully about the name you use on Twitter and other social media sites especially if you're in business for yourself. Make sure it's the best indicator of your business and your brand.

Remember: The beginning of wisdom is to call things by their right names. ~ Chinese Proverb

6 Must-Have Secrets to Successful
MLM Relationship Goals
By Lynn Moore

Had it not been for my career with an MLM company that lasted more than twenty years, my husband and I would not be able to enjoy our current free, very comfortable and adventurous lifestyle. We live in an RV resort at home in British Columbia Canada during summer and an RV resort in Yuma, AZ during winter. Our home is luxurious by motor coach standards and all we have to do is turn the key and drive the home down the highway whenever we wish to scratch the traveling itch.

I can’t say that I reached the highest pinnacle in this MLM Company but I can say it was close to that. What made me successful were my consistency in working the business, my tenacity and more than anything else my relationships with clients, colleagues and corporate staff.  Because we are people first and business owners second, my relationships were the cement in my foundation. Nothing can be built on a flimsy foundation.

Thus, I put it to you that without healthy relationships in all segments of your life, your success in an MLM business, which is the epitome of Relationship Marketing, will be a struggle.  I watched many a promising, talented woman crash and burn when a key relationship, either business or personal, went off the rails and fueled the fire of destruction.

MLM businesses tend to really appeal to women, especially if they are independently spirited.  That could also be read as “I don’t want to be tied down to a J.O.B”.  These women usually have entrepreneurial DNA in their genes and don’t take well to being followers. Most of us have a ‘leadership’ tendency, set our own timetable, rules and make our own choices.  This is wonderful, but there is a downside.  There is a tendency to run into more difficulties in relationships.  We have the female traits of empathy and nurturing (right brained) which when combined with a strong sense of independence (left brained) can be akin to mixing babies with colic.

Relationships are complex; they will ride an up and down scale. The closer and more deep the relationship, the higher and lower it can ride on this scale. So how does one ensure that their array of relationships will help and not hinder their MLM success?

First, you must have relationship goals.  This is the basis, the foundation. List the key people in your personal and business life (some may be in both lists).  Decide what it is you want from each relationship. Decide what you want to give to each relationship. Let that person know.

Second, you need to expand your knowledge of human nature. Here is where you become a student, a voracious student. Read the Masters.  You know who they are; Louise Hay, Wayne Dyer, Don Miguel Ruis, Jack Canfield, Bob Proctor to name a few of many.

Third, you must be willing to ask for help, usually before something becomes a crisis. Don’t allow things to fester, become deep rooted.  Go to upline, go to corporate and if that isn’t feasible or appropriate, find a relationship coach. Not to act as negotiator, but to help you with your end of the relationship issues.

Fourth, know your own highest values. It is crucial that you live your life aligned with your values.  Otherwise you are like a dog with a mouth full of peanut butter – your tongue will feel like it’s going to fall out from licking, but things remain stuck. What can you simply not live without? Freedom?  Kindness?  Organization?  Find someone who knows how to guide you in a values exercise.

Fifth, know how to set your boundaries and inform others what they are. This is tougher for women than it is for men.  Women have been traditionally raised to be of help to others, not stand up for themselves. It’s one of the reasons MLM appeals to women.  But if you want to climb the ladder of success and independence, you must set boundaries.  What is it you simply will not tolerate? Or, what are you tolerating right now? That will give you some hints.

Sixth, you have two ears and one mouth for a reason, become a true listener.  It is in desperately short supply.  It seems like no one really listens. Conversation goes back and forth with all sentences beginning with ‘I’. When we are not speaking we are running what we want to say in our heads rather than listening to the other person. When you deeply listen you can hear a person’s soul, you can hear what is not being said.  It’s an art; an art that is truly appreciated and much needed.  Hone it.

If you take all this in, you may find that you are doing pretty well with most of the secrets to MLM relationship success, you may find that you need to sharpen a couple, you may need to update yourself on all.  Whatever it may be just start.

And remember to…

10 Easy Ways to Increase Sales
© Terri Seymour

One of the most common questions asked by internet business owners is “How can I increase sales?”  Many articles, ebooks and reports have been written on this subject and trying to absorb that information just tends to make us more confused than ever!  Below are some easy, innovative ideas to increase sales that anybody can implement into their online marketing strategies.

  1. Offer “Freebies” on your site for your visitors.  Free reports, ebooks, services, support, ezine, etc. can be great ways to increase your customer’s trust in you, thus bringing you more sales.  Another way to offer something free it to offer a free bonus with every order.

  2. Add a community message board to your website.  Encourage your visitors to be a part of this community.  This will also help increase trust and sales.  Offer help, advice, support etc. via your community.

  3. Use “bundling” to enable your customers to save money by ordering more!  This marketing tactic has done wonders for many businesses and it can for you as well.  I offer ebook bundles or kits and they have increased my sales immensely. For example:  I sell ebooks for one dollar each but by bundling 35 together for just $15.00, I not only help my customers, I help my business increase sales as well.  Make up a separate sales page for your “bundles” and offer a variety of bundle specials as well.  Remember, helping your customers, helps you as well.

  4. Participate in autoresponder ad swaps.  If you send out autoresponder messages fine other online businesses who do the same and contact them with an offer of an ad swap.  You will place their ad on your messages, if they do the same for you.  This can be a great way to get more exposure for your business.  Find businesses that complement yours. For example:  if you sell jewelry find business owners who sell clothing as this would help your business not compete with it.

  5. Post a tip board on your site.  Change the tips daily or weekly to keep people coming back for more.  Make sure the tips are helpful and contain useful information and/or resources.

  6. Follow-up with customers and potential customers to make sure their experience was satisfying or to offer your help and assistance when needed.  When a person emails me with questions about selling ebooks, I answer promptly and then in a few days I send a follow-up.  I ask them if they have received my reply and if there is anything else I can do for them.  This simple task takes about two minutes, yet brings in a lot of sales.  It shows the customer you care about providing a good experience for them and are willing to help them if they need it.

  7. Create a survey for your site and encourage your visitors to participate.  Give them something in return such as a free gift or discount on their first order.  Surveys can help you determine if something needs to be changed on your site or in the way you conduct your marketing.  This information coul d be invaluable to your business!  Do a search for “create free survey forms” and you should find lots of services that will help you do this.

  8. Keep your website fresh and update it regularly.  If you never add anything new people will stop coming.  Add new articles, new sales, new contests, new freebies, new information, etc.

  9. Always tell your customers thank you and let them know they are appreciated.  Never treat them as if they are a bother or a waste of time.  Even if a potential customer does not buy from you, they might tell someone about their experience and that person could come and order from you.  Unfortunately, these days, many businesses forget that it i s the customers that keep them alive!

  10. Write a report or ebook and offer it to people and let them know they can give it to their visitors and subscribers.  Webmasters are always looking for good resources to offer their visitors, why not make it yours.  Think of the possibilities – you give it to 5 people, they each give it to 5 more people and so on and so on.  The free exposure you get is limitless!

There are limitless ways to build your business online and increase sales.  Many are free so don’t be afraid to try new things and contact other business owners for joint ventures, ad swaps, etc.  This article is just the tip of the iceberg, so to speak, so start today and get more sales for you and your business!

Your 30 Second Commercial
by Melodie Kantner

Or, as some people call it “Elevator Speech.”

“Luck is a matter of preparation meeting opportunity.” – Oprah Winfrey

There are often opportunities throughout every day where you can generate interest in your business or products. The biggest reason people miss these opportunities is because they aren’t prepared.

The key is to BE PREPARED with a very brief statement to say when the opportunity presents itself.

What do you say when you meet someone and they ask, “What do you do?” This is where, in just a few words, you market yourself and your business in a way that is meant to prompt him or her to ask questions, and keep the conversation going. This is not meant to be a sales pitch. At this point, you are just determining interest.

Once interest is shown, keep it brief and share some literature with them. It should have your web site and phone number on it. Get a phone number so you can follow up.

Even if you are earning most of your income from a regular job, you will still want to answer the question about what you do with a mention of the business you are building on the side.

Write down what you want to say and go over it, removing unnecessary words or words that don’t feel comfortable. Once you get your 30 Second Commercial written to the point where it fits you, practice it.

Practice, Practice, Practice. I used to walk around my house talking out loud. Try practicing in front of a mirror. Get it to the point where it flows easily.

A few possible ideas for comments:

I help others create additional income by promoting a natural health product that gives you more energy. Do you know anyone who would benefit from more energy?

I teach people how to work online from home. Who do you know who might want to learn to work online from home?

I am associated with a _________ that teaches people the proper methods to succeed in home business. we also teach people how to make money part time while maintaining their full time job.

“I am a distributor for ______________.
We also offer a complete business system for women who would like to learn how to earn a good part-time income working out of their home.”

“Do you know how many people today feel tired and have lots of aches and pains? – - wait for their reply then respond:

Well, I show people how they can have energy and feel better so they can do the things they love.”

“Do you know how many people worry about not having have enough time and money? – - wait for their reply then respond:

“Well, what I do is show them a simple way to earn an extra paycheck each month and have more free time to do the things they love.”

If you wear promotional items like a pin, hat or shirt that might stir a question.

A couple examples:

I used to have pins that said, “May the Immupower be with you!” It was one of my favorites. People would constantly ask me what that meant. It was a great opener.

Another one I saw years ago for a diet product said, “Fat Free, Ask Me!”

Use the promotional items that your company offers. Most companies promotional things you can wear. If they don’t, you can have something made up. Check out Vista Print and see what they offer.

Be prepared and always be watching for opportunities to share something to promote your business. Be in marketing mode wherever you go.

If you haven’t done it, go ahead and create your 30 second commercial. ; )

Just ONE More Thing,
Then I'll Be Ready!

By Michelle Shaeffer

Do you think about growing and promoting your business, but stop yourself with the thought that you've got to get just one more thing into place before you can do that? One more little thing you want to get perfect on that website before you start giving out the URL and going after business?

Either get it done or just go with it the way it is! Your business, your products, your services, your website will constantly change and evolve--and may never be quite "perfect" to the standards in your head, but that doesn't mean you aren't ready to get out there and help people and serve them with your expertise or products.

I've got little post-it sticky notes all over my file cabinet and bulletin board with inspirational/motivational quotes and one of them is "Done is better than perfect" (Scott Allen).

Perfect would be great but no matter how many times we go over something, a typo may slip through. One typo doesn't spell disaster for an otherwise fantastic product or ebook. If that graphic on your website isn't positioned exactly perfect or you might want to try a different font in your logo, don't let that stop you from launching your online presence.

Do you want to start a Twitter account, Facebook fan page, or attend a local networking meeting, but you haven't because you aren't sure exactly what to say? Guess what... neither are many of the rest us. Sure, there are those amazing people who've got it all together, but I bet they didn't when they started. You can create the perfect pitch but it disappears from your mind when you're asked what you do (hand waving this happens to me!). The only way to improve is to practice. Get used to being uncomfortable and out of your comfort zone and deal with the possibility that you'll make a mistake or embarrass yourself or someone will point out a typo or error somewhere. You'll do what's right - you'll fix it and move on. It won't be the end of your world or your business (unless you choose to allow it to be).

"The thing that is really hard, and really amazing, is giving up on being perfect and beginning the work of becoming yourself." ~Anna Quindlen

Consider this a virtual kick in the pants for both you, reader, and me! Be yourself - help those you're meant to help - and as long as you give the best you can, don't let the endless pursuit of perfection get in your way, but rather go after becoming the very best "you" you can be. Always aspire for more and better but keep creating, helping, and serving as you aspire.
